Obituary for Margaret Brooks

Margaret Jean "Jeanie" Byrd Brooks joined our Lord on May 31, 2017. Jeanie was born August 10, 1945 in Salem, MO, the 2nd daughter born to Hobert Emory and Stella Marguerite Farrar Byrd and was one of seven children in the family. Jeanie graduated from Republic High School and began working in a small cafe' where she met Robert "Bobby" DeMoss. She and Bobby were united in marriage 1964 in Beaman, MO. They had two children, Robert Travis and Robin Rena, before Bobby passed away in 1970. Jeanie then met Larry Arnold Brooks in 1972 and the two were married February 9, 1974. They had one daughter, Stacey Elizabeth. Jeanie was employed at Smithton Schools as a lunchroom cook for many years; she was well known to give out extra helpings of food to many students. She then went to the Center for Human Services operating their cafeteria for and was loved by all of the associates there, well after her departure. After a brief retirement stent, Jeanie worked as a home health aide, again making an impression upon all of those that she cared for. Jeanie and Larry were avid motorcyclists, traveling the United States extensively. They very much enjoyed group rides no matter the distance. Jeanie was a regular volunteer at the V.F.W. breakfasts, putting her kitchen talents to good use. University of Missouri-Columbia sports held a special place in her heart, especially Men's Basketball which Jeanie loved to watch on television or better yet in person. Jeanie loved to be outdoors, working in flower beds, the garden or hunting deer. Jeanie held all of her grandchildren and great grandchildren very close to her heart, spending as much time with them as possible. Jeanie was a member of Maplewood Church and took part in the church's quilting mission programs. Jeanie will be deeply missed by the community and family. Surving is her husband Larry Brooks, son Travis DeMoss (Lisa) of Sedalia, daughter Robin King (George) of Versailles and daughter Stacey Edwards of Columbia City, IN. Grandchildren Jessica Brown, Sgt James Stewart, Morgan DeMoss and great-grandchildren Ayden and Aubrey Brown, Marie Stewart. Brothers James Byrd, Kenneth Byrd, Keith Byrd and sisters Evelyn Wilson, Deborah McNeely, Patricia Cantrell. Jeanie was preceded in death by her parents Hobert and Marguerite Byrd as well as Robert "Bobby" DeMoss. Funeral services will be at 10:00 A.M. Thursday, June 8, 2017 at Ewing-Schutte-Semler Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. Eddie Brown officiating. Burial will follow at 1:00 P.M. at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville, MO. The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Wednesday, June 7, 2017 at the funeral home. Serving as pallbearers will be Sgt. James Stewart, Kenneth Byrd, Jr., Larry Reven, Brett Sorrell, Ret. Maj. Jamie Melchert and Richard Brooks. Honorary pallbearers will be Robert and Evelyn Porter and Kenneth Byrd.
